After the previous "with a twist" posts dedicated to Mauve and Nude colours (if you've missed them you can find it HERE and HERE), I'm back with a different post, dedicated to a technique instead of a colour: French Manicure!

Dopo i precedenti post a tema Colore dedicati al Malva e al Nude (se ve li siete perse, potete trovarli QUI e QUI), eccomi tornata con un post diverso, dedicato invece che ad un colore, ad una tecnica: la French Manicure!
The original French, you probably already know, has been created by Orly in 1975 when Jeff Pink created a natural nail look to help screen actresses speed up the time between wardrobe changes. Simple, classic and feminine, this time-saving manicure accentuated the nails without ever upstaging the outfit. Stylists and starlets loved the new look that quickly spread through the fashion world. Once it hit the runways of Paris Jeff knew he had the perfect name… the French Manicure!
La French originale, probabilmente lo sapete già , è stata creata da Orly nel 1975 quando Jeff Pink decise di creare un look naturale per le unghie, per aiutare le attrici ad accelerare i tempi tra i cambi d'abito. Semplice, classica e femminile, questa manicure salva-tempo accentua il look delle unghie senza mai stravolgere l'outfit. Stilisti e attrici hanno amato il nuovo look che si è diffuso rapidamente nel mondo della moda. Una volta che ebbe stupito le passerelle di Parigi, Jeff seppe di avere il nome perfetto ... la French Manicure!
This is a regular French manicure I've recently made, using Essie french manicure set I've bought some time ago at the airport (maybe in Belgium, or in The Netherlands).
Questa una French classica su unghie ovali che ho fatto recentemente usando il set french manicure di Essie che acquistai in aeroporto qualche tempo fa (credo in Belgio, o in Olanda).
The first variations are decorated French manicures, from the simplest ones with one or more rhinestones, to the most complicated with freehand flowers or curls.
Le prime varianti sono le French decorate, dalle più semplici con uno o più strass, fino a quelle più complicate con decori di fiori e riccioli vari.
Without forgetting extreme lengths and super decorated versions, acrylic and gel nails have created endless possibilities and designs for this kind of nail art:

Chevron French / Non so se abbia un nome in italiano
The white tip is not arched, like in the traditional French, but pointy.
La punta bianca non è ad arco come nella French tradizionale ma a punta.
Diagonal French / French Diagonale
The name says it all... it's a nail art I've loved so much in the past, actually you can find many examples on the blog: Diagonal French

Double Diagonal French / French Diagonale Doppia
It's similar to a Chevron shape, but is obtained with two different coloured diagonal Frenches, so we can consider it a variation of a diagonal french.
My version is made with Zoya Satin Brittany as base colour (it's necessary to completely hide the free margin of the nail as with the chevron), the white is made with Essie Blanc, and the black is Zoya Raven.
Simile alla Chevron per la forma, ma è ottenuta con due diagonal di colore diverso. E' una variante della diagonal french.
La mia versione è ottenuta utilizzando Zoya Satin Brittany come base (fondamentale annullare il naturale margine libero come per la chevron), il bianco è ottenuto con Essie Blanc, e il nero con Zoya Raven.
Half Moon Manicure
We can find its origins in the 1930s for oval to pointy nails: where a half-circle shaped part of the nail was left unpainted in the cuticles area (and often also the point).
It has regained its popularity thanks to the gorgeous Dita von Teese, the burlesque movement and the renewed vintage trends (The Great Gatsby movie included).
In the modern version we can find different colours from the original nude/red-coral-rose.
Questa nail art vede la sua origine negli anni '30, dove su unghie ovali e a punta si lasciava non smaltata una piccola porzione di unghia a forma di semicerchio nella zona delle cuticole (e spesso anche in punta). Riportata in auge dalla splendida Dita Von Teese, dal movimento burlesque in generale e dai rinnovati trend del vintage (compreso il film Il Grande Gatsby). Nella versione moderna vede spesso diversi accostamenti di colore rispetto al classico nude/rosso-corallo-rosa.

Ruffian Manicure / French Inversa
Contrary to the Half Moon, this is a modern nail art, created by CND in the 2010.
Also called Reverse French or Reverse Moon, which describes best its peculiarity: instead of a nail art with a semicircle contrast area, it has a crescent shape in the cuticle area. Perfect with any nail shape and any contrast of colours.
It's not a nail art I particularly love, especially because as I'm not very precise with the brush, the results I get is very imprecise. This example has been made with Zoya Donnie and Faby Hudson Sunset.
Contrariamente alla Half Moon, questa è una nail art moderna, ideata da CND nel 2010.
In Italiano il termine French inversa è più comunemente usato per definire una particolare tecnica di realizzazione della french manicure nel mondo delle ricostruzioni, che nulla ha a che vedere con questa nail art, chiamata in inglese Ruffian Manicure o Reverse Moon, termine che meglio identifica questa particolare nail art. Se nella Half Moon si lascia nudo o si colorava di un altro tono un semicerchio nella zona delle cuticole, nella Reverse Moon la parte a contrasto è a forma di mezzaluna.
Non è una nail art che amo particolarmente, perchè essendo una schiappa con i pennelli, il risultato che ottengo è molto impreciso. Questo esempio è realizzato con Zoya Donnie e Faby Hudson Sunset.
Babyboomer
Not only precise, sharp "french smiles": one of the newest trend in the french manicure world is the Babyboomer, a shaded french manicure that can be obtained by making the base colour blend with the white tip. My version is made with regular nail polish and is obtained by mixing the base Golden Rose Paris 027 with the white Catherine Arley 101, adding to blend them better the sheer pink Essie Mademoiselle (the one of the kit I've shown you above) and China Glaze Fairy Dust for the right dose of holo glitter.
Non solo "sorrisi" precisi e definiti, uno degli ultimi trend nel mondo della french manicure è il Babyboomer, una french sfumata che possiamo ottenere creando una sfumatura in cui il colore di base si fonde con il bianco della punta. La mia versione con smalto normale l'ho realizzata miscelando la base Golden Rose Paris 027 con il bianco Catherine Arley 101, aggiungendo il lattiginoso rosa Essie Mademoiselle (quello del kit french) e China Glaze Fairy Dust per la giusta dose di glitter holo.

Quite unusual, it's very popular for Valentine's day. Perfect for oval to almond shaped nail, to enhance the heart shape with the nail shape. I've made mine for V-Day in a sparkly red polish, China Glaze Ruby Pumps (THE red glittery polish) on a sheer nude base, OPI Bubble Bath.
Two legends among nail polishes!
Molto insolita, è molto popolare per il giorno di San Valentino. Particolarmente adatta per unghie da ovali a mandorla per accentuare la forma a cuore con la forma delle unghie. La mia versione l'ho realizzata proprio per San Valentino con uno smalto glitterato rosso, China Glaze Ruby Pumps (mica pizza e fichi...) su base sheer beige, OPI Bubble Bath. Due mostri sacri insomma!
Wavy French / French ondulate
Creativity never ends when talking about french manicure, and we can make french manis in any shape.

I've tried a zig-zag tape once, but it wasn't a french manicure (HERE), and I can't find my scissors so I can't make a new one soon, sorry.
Ho provato una volta a fare una tape a zig-zag ma non era una french manicure (QUI), e non trovo più le mie forbici, quindi non ne posso fare un'altra a breve, scusate.
